President Sukarno declares the Bandung Conference open on 18
April 1955 with African and Asian countries to unite in the fight against
colonialism. It was a first intercontinental conference of colored people in
the history of the world that leader of Asian and African countries met
together to discuss about colonialism. President Sukarno expressed sadness over
the deaths of people who fought to defend independence. President Sukarno
recalled the conference of the league against imperialism and colonialism that
was held in Brussels thirty years ago found new strength in their fight for
independence. Some Asian and African countries are not fully free yet from
colonialism. This conference is made to aware Asian and African countries to be
united and responsible together to liberating countries from being colonized. Even
though Asian and African countries are different but unity can make nothing is
impossible. Colonialism has also in modern form. Such as economic control,
intellectual control, cultural control and indirect political control. We never realized that we are being
colonized. Asian and African countries are a greater diversity of religions,
faiths and beliefs. So, President Sukarno want this conference be a great
success. “Live and let live” principle and “Unity in diversity” motto the
unifying force to being all together. President Sukarno stated that if this
conference succeeds, the effect of it will be great and seek an understanding
of each other to be united and hope this discussion will be profitable to all
people.
