SDG: IOT FOR QUALITY EDUCATION

 Introduction

The Internet of things as an emerging global Internet -based information architecture facilitates the exchanges of goods and services is gradually evolving. The term IoT was first used 21 years ago by Kevin Ashton in 1999. The same concept began as early as around  the 70s with the team “pervasive computing”  or widespread computing. It is a concept where equipment , machines, sensors and devices are connected to the internet and data collection and transfer takes place over a network. IoT is simply an extension of today’s Internet technology. This digital age allows interaction between human and machine/computer (human-to-machine), machine with human (machine-to-human ) or machine with machine (machine-to-machine). Without realizing it, we are indirectly involved with IoT in carrying out our daily activities. If it can be connected to an internet network or be part of a machine connected to the internet, and there is data transfer , it is categorized as IoT. These include cameras , lights, coffee makers, washing machines, pulse readers, telephones, smartwatches, cctv and more.

The Internet of Things is also very important in the field of education. This is because education requires extensive information support so that students can obtain accurate and detailed information. The IoT has also greatly changed the way students learn from the traditional way to the modern way. In this way it has trained students to be sensitive to current rapid developments. IoT is able to help students in obtaining accurate data, can save time in finding information and also is able to save student energy. IoT may help schools to create an infrastructure where students can use their gadget to participate in the class and log in their learning software. Indirectly, this can make students more interested in learning because students nowadays are more inclined to use gadgets than reading books. IoT in this field of education grew even more rapidly during the Covid-19 epidemic. This is because students cannot continue their studies face to face at school so studies must be continued online. This has led to a dramatic increase in the use of IoT among students. Without IoT, students who are in this pandemic era will miss their lessons. It is therefore clear that IoT is very important in the field of education. In addition, IoT is very important among all levels of society because it is able to encourage society to continue to grow in various ways including a more critical way of thinking, a way of learning that is in line with the current era of globalization and can produce more intelligent people.

Motivation

The internet of things (IoT), or the connection of devices other than standard products such as computers and smartphones to the internet, is transforming many aspects of our everyday lives. And, while it could not appear to be an apparent application of IoT, education is on the list. The internet of things (IoT) has the capability to transform education through fundamentally changing how schools, colleges, and universities collect data, interact with users, and automate processes. The internet of things (IoT) refers to the networking of physical objects through the usage of embedded sensors, actuators, and different devices that can gather and transmit data about real-time campus activity. The internet has deeply rooted itself into our schools, and e-learning has come to be common practice now in schools, colleges and universities with the advent of Covid-19 pandemic. When IoT is combined with technologies which includes user mobility and data analytics, it brings a brand new paradigm in education.

There are numerous benefits of IoT in education. The internet of things (IoT) is poised to essentially alter education as we know it. Students who use these mobile IoT devices in the classroom can automate tasks that they already do, consisting of taking notes, checking their schedules, and carrying out research. The internet of things can start disrupting education as early as kindergarten and continue to do so until Form Five, however perhaps the most profound effects occur in higher education. Students, particularly those in colleges and universities, are increasingly forsaking paper books in favour of tablets and laptop computers. students can now learn at their very own pace and have an almost identical educational experience at home and in the classroom due to the fact they have access to all of the necessary information.

At the same time as this trend benefits students, it also benefits lecturers by means of making the teaching process more efficient. Because of the surge in connected technology, instructors no longer need to manually grade tests on paper or perform other routine tasks. Rather, lecturers can focus on the type of personalised learning that is most beneficial to their students. Lecturers can gather data on their students using cloud-connected devices and then determine which of them require the most individual attention and care. These information then would assist them in enhancing student engagement and adjusting lesson plans for future lessons.

Nowadays, it is impossible to keep kids and teenagers away from their smart devices. Kids and teenagers now have greater access to smart devices than ever before, and their screen time has increased significantly. While parents and guardians ought to monitor their children's screen time, there are significant educational advantages to children, be it kids or teens using smart devices.

In addition to smart devices, IoT devices use a variety of software and sensors to create smart classrooms for students. Schools for example can use IoT to build a smart infrastructure wherein students can participate in class and log in to their learning software using their smartphones or tablets. Students can benefit from the larger screen size of their tablets with the aid of creating the best virtual notebooks and textbooks for them. They can highlight important paragraphs, doodle, and make small notes on their digital textbooks, among other things. One fundamental advantage of the internet of things is that it presents students with the opportunity to learn in multiple ways. Students can use their smart devices to move beyond the conventional desk-and-blackboard classroom environment and learn through videos, webinars, discussions, debates, and group activities that are all administered over the internet through internet connectivity.

According to justtotaltalk.com, Promethean is a great internet of things example. They design interactive displays that integrate natural writing technology with multi-touch and dry-erase features. It also includes a cloud-based lesson delivery software. One example of an education institution using Promethean would be Palmer high school from Colorado. Palmer high school from Colorado  deployed Promethean's device in its English tutoring and media centers for students to better engage with the study material.

Another benefit of IoT in education would be it is able to create an inclusive and functional environment for specially-abled children. School administration can use IoT to meet the special educational needs of autistic students, students with ADHD or different learning disorders, or students with some other form of disability. Schools can develop unique education programmes based totally on their students' unique needs. For instance, they could develop a "read text" option for students with low vision, allowing them to have their textbooks read aloud to them. Furthermore, IoT can perceive the parts that children struggle to understand. They can then make appropriate adjustments to the study material. Educators benefit from the internet of things by being able to create custom interactive learning modules for students who are suffering in school as well as for students who are differently abled. Special-needs students can catch up with the rest of the class thanks to IoT due to the fact they receive the extra attention they require.

Furthermore, the internet of factors (IoT) in education provides automation for educators such as instructors or teachers. This IoT benefit makes the lives of teachers easier as well, along with the lives of students. IoT enables classroom automation, allowing educators such as teachers or lecturers to focus on freeing up their time. Educators’ high-frequency repetitive tasks, which includes grading closed-ended answers and taking attendance, can benefit from automation. It additionally allows them to teach students in an interactive manner in order to capture their attention and effectively teach concepts. Rather than being distracted by taking notes during a class, smart microphones can transcribe the teacher's daily lessons, which can then be shared as digitally printed notes, thanks to IoT. The microphone can also record and save audio so that students can listen to it later when they want to revise. Moreover, the internet of things (IoT) relieves educators of the burden of students failing to finish tasks such as assignments. When the lecturers or teachers announces the word assignment through the smart microphone, it automatically updates students' digital planners, leveraging voice recognition technology.

In short, there are various benefits of the internet of things (IoT) in education. People regardless whether they are students, parents, teachers, or lecturers  ought to know and care that IoT in education benefits everyone. The concerned parties should be more proactive in implementing Internet of Things (IoT) in education.

Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 interconnected global goals intended to serve as a "blueprint for achieving a better and more sustainable future for all." The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, with the goal of achieving them by 2030. No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Reduced Inequality, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life Below Water, Life On Land, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, Partnerships for the Goals are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

We chose Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) for this group project because it is about quality education and is one of the 17 SDGs created by the United Nations in September 2015. SDG 4 consists of ten objectives that are measured by eleven indicators. Free primary and secondary education, equal access to quality pre-primary education, affordable technical, vocational, and higher education, an increase in the number of people with relevant skills for financial success, the elimination of all forms of discrimination in education, universal literacy and numeracy, education for sustainable development and global citizenship, the construction and upgrading of inclusive and safe schools, the expansion of higher education scholarships for developing countries.

Education is a vital instrument that equips humans with all available information. After several years of globalisation, individuals all across the world began to understand that current economic growth tendencies are no longer sustainable, and many saw education as the key to shifting society toward sustainability. Education for sustainable development (ESD) is the key to sustainable development because it enables everyone to acquire the information, skills, attitudes, and values required to build the future in a more sustainable manner. ESD is characterised as a more comprehensive approach to education with the goal of "building a better planet for future generations of all living beings." Many have contended, however, that education is not a trustworthy source based on the principle of sustainability. Many people have diverse perspectives on sustainable societies, varying definitions of the term "sustainable," and whether or not it is possible. The absence of permission and definition has hampered efforts to bring education closer to a sustainable society.

Because to COVID-19, SDG 4 for inclusive and equitable access to education, like the other SDGs, is likely to be missed. By 2030, more than 200 million youngsters are predicted to be out of school. Following the epidemic, education institute closures affected 91 percent of students beginning in April 2020. During the COVID-19 epidemic, the majority of kids had difficulty gaining access to school. Many educational institutions are attempting to maintain their programmes through the use of online education. Because many students in impoverished nations do not have access to the Internet or a favourable atmosphere for online learning, equity remains a barrier to remote learning access. Internet of Things (IoT) refers to technical e-learning breakthroughs in the networking industry. It has been observed that, thanks to the internet, it is now simpler to stay linked with real-world concerns by being aware of what is going on in the globe. Everyone is aware that people all around the world communicate with one another. 'Things' can be defined as items that are linked over the internet. Over the internet, a specific type of interconnection of various items can fulfil its capabilities through information that can be used in receiving and sending of assessed data. It is considered to be specialised in nearly every sector that may be decided in a variety of ways for implementing a large range of application formats.

Long-term growth necessitates an investment in education. Tomorrow's leaders and people' ability to suggest answers and chart new paths to a better, more sustainable future is contingent on today's education. Unfortunately, our current human knowledge, abilities, and experience do not contain solutions to all of the world's current environmental, social, and economic issues. Despite the fact that humanity has faced and conquered crises in the past, the scale of current difficulties is greater than ever before, and the world population is more than ever before. While we may rely on past experiences to tackle current and future issues, the truth remains that people all across the world will need to learn how to live sustainably. As a result, education is vital for both parties.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is being used in the education industry as a result of COVID-19. IoT is used in education to give students interactive learning opportunities as they learn new topics. Then, with the aid of IoT, pupils may be tracked and their presence recorded at any moment. This IoT can prevent any unanticipated incidents from occurring. IoT also allows instructors and students to use educational apps that provide exciting opportunities for teaching and learning. This makes education more engaging than ever. IoT may help improve efficiency in the school industry by collecting attendance and transmitting it to a central office server. It is possible to reduce the task of taking attendance. This Internet of Things technology helps instructors and students to focus.

In the sphere of education, the Internet of Things (IoT) is a changing dynamic. The adoption of digital tools not only makes education ubiquitous, but it also makes existing educational systems more efficient and inclusive. Smartphones and tablets are being utilised by students of all ages in digital classrooms. To facilitate a better comprehension, complicated procedures are being explained via augmented reality and images. On their portals, schools and educational institutes retain an online real-time track record of their students' development. Learning platforms are expanding, with live classrooms, pre-recorded lectures, and problem-solving capabilities all linked to a dedicated server and software designed specifically for educational usage. All of this is how the Internet of Things (IoT) has taken the educational world by storm. The Internet of Things (IoT) will be gradually integrated into the educational system in the future. The majority of educational sectors will use it to assist pupils become extremely tech-literate. If we wish to integrate IoT into education, we must first modify our perspective on education. IoT that creates sensible, realistic goods may assist administrators, students, and instructors first.

Finally, we must learn to live sustainably as people in a society where the population is expanding and natural resources are finite. The global issues that the world is facing today, such as the environment, poverty, human rights, peace, and development, are becoming increasingly complex. As a result, Education for Sustainable Development is one of the essential strategies to be implemented in schools in order to guide our children to resolve these global issues towards a better sustainable society. Despite the fact that many nations have recognised the importance of education in achieving sustainability, only limited progress has been made. There are several reasons why corporations fail to advance. It might be a lack of knowledge, a lack of policy, or a lack of finance. As a result, governments must address all of the obstacles and impediments to ESD during the planning stage in order to decrease or avoid delays in implementing it in schools.

Method propose

The education sector was once, in general, an international of blackboards and textbooks. However, these days, increasingly more academic establishments are harnessing the strength of the era to streamline methods, make teaching greater effective, and supply a better learning experience. From migrating to the cloud, online route material, administrative software programs, and even wireless internet connectivity there may be no denying that schools, colleges, and universities are embracing a digital future. thinking about those improvements, it stands to purpose that the educational sector is prepared to turn out to be an active adapter of the internet of things (IoT) and take digital transformation to the next stage within the globe.

From the data that we have collected that were analyzed in this study, we can define the issues regarding IoT in education. Despite the fact that this technology helps in improving the performance of the education system yet a few issues that we must undergo. For example, lack of financial resources and implementation of IoT, privacy, and data security were major issues of IoT in education whether or not in schools, colleges, or universities. To provide an explanation in detail, financial resources play a crucial role in the integration of IoT devices and equipment in education systems. Financial resources can be defined as budgeting in academic organizations is involved with making and enforcing choices on the usage of economic sources. For example, we use the money to acquire and purchase a few real resources such as equipment, materials, utilities, and maintenance of IoT devices.

Next, reliable Wi-Fi connectivity was one of the issues regarding IoT in education. For example, data is accumulated, stored, and shared amongst students and teachers through a network of related devices using more than one source. Occasionally, due to protection breaches, students' records are disclosed to other people. In addition, during the pandemic COVID-19, the majority of people especially students faced problems accessing the internet. Many educational institutions are seeking to keep their programs by utilizing online education. So, some teachers take alternatives such as using google classroom as a medium to communicate with their students. For example, when teachers upload a few documents of audio and video streaming of lectures and materials on google classroom, this is required high-speed connectivity. Thus, high-speed connectivity was one of the issues regarding IoT in education.

However, there are numerous method proposed issues regarding IoT in education. The method proposed can be defined as the acceptable way to solve the problems. Taking Alice Hoffman as a great example, once said "Every problem has a solution, although it may not be the outcome that was originally hoped for or expected." From my perspective, IoT enables the shaping of smart lesson plans, smart classrooms, and smart campuses. This era allows the connectivity of students and educators around the world. IoT also can increase students' engagement and teachers' performance. This technology promotes collaboration and creativity, enhances access to records, improves safety, and enriches the teaching-learning method. IoT has the ability for making things smarter and more connected and resultantly, accomplish ever-increasing importance in every walk of life.

First, remote education is one of another method proposed issues regarding IoT in education. During the pandemic COVID-19, everyone prefers to stay at home to prevent virus spreads that will threaten and harm our lives. Perhaps, remote education is the best way of a method proposed, it offers us to preserve an ordinary lifestyle without even leaving our home and education isn't any exception. For instance, lessons are being held in the format of webinars, online chatting, operating on academic material using the special software program of IoT devices. These are simply some of the IoT capabilities worthy of interest to our normal society nowadays. Through the way, IoT solutions in educational environments provide teachers the capability to control the class remotely. Let me explain more, if he's or she’s unwell and can’t attend classes, a teacher doesn't need to deprive students of his lecture using voice or gesture commands.

Next, another method proposed issues regarding IoT in education is government provides free devices. This is probably because IoT in education is such an important matter to our society today, the future of education is connected at all levels and required devices, educational plans, and security parameters previously unknown to the industry. Both students and teachers can get benefits from IoT devices such as interactive whiteboards, tablets, smartphones, e-books, 3D printers, digital and augmented reality headsets, sensors, fitness bands, cameras, and videos. The IoT devices make their gaining knowledge of methods quicker, efficient, and effective. Furthermore, this system has introduced new channels of communication and is equipping students with the 21st century. IoT enables in enhancing the high quality of the studying technique by offering students attractive, collaborating, and content material-developing surroundings. It also enables students in growing smart gaining knowledge of the environment and develop creative skills. This system has enabled students to study at any place and at any time such as at the home, within the campus or outside the campus.

Besides, creating smart classrooms is one of another method proposed issues regarding IoT in education. Smart classrooms can be defined as thereby combining all of the above technologies into a single coherent system. A smart classroom can identify students, record their attendance and progress, control devices such as interactive whiteboards, projectors, personal computers and perform other similar tasks. Those research discovered that IoT promotes communication, cooperation, and collaboration amongst students and teachers as properly in a comfy environment. For example, this system is promoting smart classrooms, smart campuses, smart institutions, smart lesson plans, and smart e-learning environments. This is probably because due to IoT will enrich the coaching-mastering method that can improve students' performance and enhance the satisfaction of training. As we recognize, IoT enables teachers in teachers in presenting customized content material and information on students' learning aspects and overall performance with the help of IoT devices. This system has disseminated distances amongst students and institutions. To recapitulate, due to this opportunity, they are able to study and gain more pieces of knowledge at any time and at everywhere.

In conclusion, therefore I totally agree that IoT in education can make us better to become a successful person. This is probably because nowadays, we are living a life where IoT is necessary. Taking one education professional as a great example once said, "It is not about the technology; it's about sharing knowledge and information, communicating efficiently, building learning communities, and creating a culture of professionalism in schools. These are the key responsibilities of all educational leaders." To recapitulate, today to make our country become world-class education, the IoT has deeply rooted itself in our schools, and e-learning has to turn out to be common practice in our education system.

Conclusion

New techniques may be introduced in the future to address all of these difficulties. Education can face several issues as a result of modern Internet of Things technologies, such as the IoT. By inspiring students to learn at a faster speed, this approach has the ability to provide significant instruction.
